Sissy Gust grew up in Houston, Texas and has been exposed to the art world her entire life. She started taking pictures on a digital camera at a young age documenting her family's adventures. She loved capturing their raw emotions while spending quality time together exploring new places. In high school she began shooting film and revamped the school's darkroom after it was closed for almost a decade. She currently resides in Austin, Texas where she attends St. Edward's University and is majoring in Photo and Media Arts with a minor in Graphic Design. She works as a lab monitor in the school darkroom. Sissy’s inspired by fashion and intimate relationships with oneself and those around them. She tries to capture her subjects as raw as possible and portray who they are in an artistic fashion.
The work I create has been described as vibrant, focused and eclectic, with a sense of intimacy. My goal as an artist is to capture authentic beauty as best as possible and give a sense of emotion from my models. I believe film photography captures the world in the most beautiful way, allowing color to feel rich. This is how I strive to capture my subjects and portray them in my desired way.
